5th Grade Reading: This week we will focus our attention on practicing our fluency skills. We will read a Reader’s Theatre story to help us work build oral fluency. We will also return to our textbook for a short time to read The Riddle, a story about a clever charcoal maker who stumps the king with a riddle. Skills: compare & contrast, predictions, and summary skills.
6th Grade: This week we will begin our study of the Titanic. Students will read a non-fiction piece in our textbook, and they will also read a “Choose Your Own Adventure” story that is historical fiction. Their choices in the story will predict whether or not they survive!!
Spelling/ Grammar: There will be a spelling unit this week for both 5th and 6th grade. We will also focus our efforts on developing more poetry for our poetry unit. The due date for the poetry books will be May 6th so that we will have them to share at Grandparents day. Ask your child to see the requirement sheet for this project.
5th Grade Math- With Chapter 12 behind us, we must push forward! Chapter 13 will challenge our thinking skills as we learn about Greatest Common Factors (GCF) and Least Common Multiples (LCM).
6th Grade Math- Chapter 28 –Understanding Integers & Chapter 29- Integer Operations. We will work with both of these chapters this week to better understand how negative numbers relate to positive numbers.
Social Studies- This week we will start our last unit in Social Studies. In our first chapter we will learn about World War I, The Roaring Twenties, The Great Depression, and then on to World War II. Our book just briefly covers each of these topics. I have requested books from the bookmobile to add to our research. If you have anything to share- books, videos, etc, please let me know!
Science: We will be sharing our body system travel brochures and making a body systems model to finish our health unit on how to care for our body systems. Next week we will begin our study of weather.
Religion- This week we will finish Chapter 10: A Sign to the World. We will look at why unity in the church is so important. We will also begin our study of Chapter 11: The Teaching Church
- Please help us to continue to collect prayers for our Haiti prayer chain. Our class is looking for ways to collect more prayers to reach our goal of 1,920 Please help us!
- We are also beginning work on the Memorial Garden Service and are looking for the names of people you would like to be remembered. The date has not been set, but will be soon.
