As the World Turns in 5th & 6th Grade Week of: May 3rd - 7th

5th & 6th Grade Reading: This week we will begin our next novel unit. The 5th & 6th grade students will be reading historical fiction novels based on WWII. We will start by building some background knowledge about World War II. These novels will connect to our Social Studies unit.

 

Spelling/ Grammar: There will be no spelling unit this week for both 5th and 6th grade. The due date for the poetry books will be May 6th so that we will have them to share at Grandparents day. Ask your child to see the requirement sheet for this project. We will also be working on Irregular Verb Forms

 

5th Grade Math- This week we will review what we have learned in Chapter 13. Chapter 13: Greatest Common Factors (GCF) and Least Common Multiples (LCM). We will also learn about exponents and prime and composite numbers.

 

6th Grade Math- Chapter 29- Integer Operations: Our focus is adding and subtracting negative and positive numbers. If all goes well, we will also begin to learn how to multiple & divide negative and positive numbers.

 

Social Studies- The Great Depression and World War II will be our topics of study this week. The students will also be starting their State Reports this week. Our State Fair will take place Thursday, May 27th. Please ask your child to see the requirement sheet.

 

Science: This week we will begin our study of weather. Our first lesson focuses on Atmosphere and Air Pressure. We will also study how a thermometer works and use it to track the temperature daily.

 

Religion-. We will begin our study of Chapter 11: The Teaching Church. We will look at how we learn about our faith.

 

  • Please help us to continue to collect prayers for our Haiti prayer chain. Our class is looking for ways to collect more prayers to reach our goal of 1,920 Please help us!
  • We are also beginning work on the Memorial Garden Service and are looking for the names of people you would like to be remembered. The date has not been set, but will be soon.
