Dear Parents:
It was a busy week, but we did it! The kids really worked hard. We were able to learn the letter C and D this week. We had a lot of good show-and-tells with these letters. Ask them to tell you letter sounds and see if they remember. This is a great pre-reading skill!
They did a great job in church this week. Father Dick was nice enough to come down the day before and explain what would be happening for Ash Wednesday. They were a little timid about the ashes, but all took them without a fuss. We are trying to learn the reason for lent, so you may start hearing some things about Jesus dying on the cross for us. Let me know if they are having any anxiety about this.
We had great fun at the pie eating contest. The teachers went against the vice principal, the secretary and Father Dick. The teachers won. I happened to win the honor of being one of the teachers! It was not pretty! The raffle was a success and every one of our kids went home with a prize.
We learned about President George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, for President’s Day. We know what money we can find them on and Clara was nice enough to bring in a nickel and a penny to show us.
We have been learning about the Olympics and every day the 5th and 6th graders give us an update on how well the U.S. is doing.
Thank you to all of you for bringing in straws and snacks, we appreciate all you do!
Have a great weekend and God Bless,
Mrs. Thome
