Reading

5th Grade: This week we will be working on getting ourselves organized. We will go over classroom rules and procedures, organize our binders, and practice our daily routines.

6th Grade: The sixth graders will help us review our classroom rules and they will even learn some new procedures that I have put in place to make our classroom run more smoothly!

J Both groups will work on an “I AM” poem-Look for them in the hallway!

Math-
5th Grade: Place Value and Estimating skills will keep us busy in Chapter One. Where better to practice place value than the NFL salary scales! The kids will choose a Fantasy Football team, stay under their salary cap, and write out checks for their players!

6th Grade: The sixth graders will also review place value, choose their Fantasy Football teams, and practice rounding whole numbers.

Social Studies- This year we will be studying early U.S. history. Our year starts with a review of our Government. We will take a quick look at the U.S. Constitution, review the branches of government, and study the Regions of the United States.

Science- Each year I begin Science class with a review of the Scientific Method. This year we will be doing “The Bubble Gum Challenge”. Wish us luck!!!

Religion- This week we will start Religion class off with our school year theme: THE GOLDEN RULE. On Thursday we will meet with our second grade buddies to go over what this means.

Back to School Prayer

We thank you for the fragrance of a new box of crayons, Lord,

the rainbow in each perfect row;

Thank you for each bundle of snowy white notebook paper,

awaiting fresh possibilities.

May they remind us that you make all things new

and bless us with abundance.

Thank you for this ruler,

for every eraser that tops every pencil.

May they help us remember to measure our blessings

but never your boundless love for us,

to allow for the making of mistakes

as a normal part of human learning.

As we lay out our new clothes

for these first days of school,

help us remember to put on Christ each day, too,

and to “clothe the naked” as he asked us.

But mostly, God, help us remember

that Jesus is always our best and most devoted teacher—

that we never outgrow all his lessons on how you want us to live and to love.

Amen

I am looking forward to a great year! Yours in Catholic Education- Mrs. Lynn
