5th and 6th Grade Reading: This week we will continue our research on Medieval times to help us better identify with the setting of our next three novels. The novels we are reading are  Ella Enchanted, The Whipping Boy, and The Tale of Despereaux. All of the literature groups are working on building vocabulary, predicting skills, and story elements.

Spelling/ Grammar: There will be a spelling unit this week for both 5th & 6th grades

5th Grade Math- ( last week Iowa Basics slowed us down, but I hope we can more forward this week) We will be starting Chapter 11 this week: Dividing Decimals. We will start with reviewing adding and subtracting decimals to see how much we remember. We will then be looking for patterns in decimal division, and then on to the dividing!

6th Grade Math- Our Algebra chapter is off to a good start. We will work on square roots and review this week. Chapter 11 Test on Friday if all goes well.

Social Studies- We will be starting a new chapter this week-Industry Changes the Country. I will be asking the students to come up with an invention that would make work easier today.

Science: We will continue to cover the topics of erosion and weathering, and the effect they have on the earth’s surface. We will also move into a new lesson titles Minerals of the Earth’s Crust. (We are looking for anyone with a rock collection to share it with the class- please be sure all items are labeled so that they can be safely returned!)

Religion- This week we will continue our Lenten study: Making a Change of Heart.  We will also be sharing our next two Lent symbols with the school at our Wednesday morning prayer service in church. We will also start Chapter 8: Proclaim the Kingdom. We will be reading parables from the bible to see how Jesus worked to teach about the Kingdom of God.

* Please help us to continue to collect prayers for our Haiti prayer chain. Our class is looking for ways to collect more prayers to reach our goal of 1,920. Please help us!
